Corrections, Retractions, and Withdrawal Policy
The Journal of Management, Economics, and Industrial Organization (JOMEINO) is committed to maintaining the integrity of the scholarly record. The journal follows the principles, guidelines, and flowcharts of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) when issuing corrections, retractions, withdrawals, and expressions of concern.
1. Purpose and Scope
This policy describes the procedures for correcting, retracting, withdrawing published articles, and issuing expressions of concern. It applies to all content published in JOMEINO and is intended to ensure transparency, accountability, and trust in the academic record.
2. Definitions and Grounds for Action
2.1 Corrections
Corrections (corrigenda or errata) are issued when minor errors are identified that do not compromise the overall integrity, reliability, or conclusions of the article. Examples include typographical errors, minor data presentation issues, author affiliation corrections, or errors introduced during production.
2.2 Retractions
Retractions are issued when the findings of an article are shown to be unreliable due to research misconduct (such as data fabrication, falsification, or plagiarism) or serious unintentional errors (such as major methodological or analytical flaws). Retractions may also be issued in cases of redundant publication or unethical research practices.
2.3 Expressions of Concern
An expression of concern may be issued when there is reason to doubt the integrity or reliability of an article, but the available evidence is inconclusive or an investigation is ongoing. This may occur, for example, when:
- serious allegations have been raised but institutional investigations are not yet complete;
- there are credible concerns about data integrity or ethical compliance that cannot be immediately resolved;
- authors or institutions are unresponsive or investigations are significantly delayed.
Expressions of concern are intended to alert readers to potential issues while preserving due process for all parties.
2.4 Withdrawals
Withdrawal refers to the removal of an article prior to formal publication (for example, during early online release) due to errors, ethical concerns, or author request. Withdrawn articles are clearly marked as withdrawn, and the reason for withdrawal is stated where appropriate.
3. Initiation of Corrections, Retractions, and Expressions of Concern
Requests or concerns leading to corrections, retractions, expressions of concern, or withdrawals may be initiated by:
- authors;
- editors or members of the editorial board;
- reviewers;
- readers;
- institutions, funders, or other third parties.
All requests are assessed confidentially by the Editor-in-Chief or a designated handling editor, in accordance with COPE flowcharts and recommendations.
4. Editorial Assessment and Decision-Making
Upon receipt of a request or concern, the editorial office conducts an initial assessment to determine the appropriate course of action. Where necessary, authors may be contacted for clarification, and institutions or independent experts may be consulted.
Decisions are made based on the severity of the issue, the reliability of the findings, the intent (where relevant), and the potential impact on the scholarly record. All actions are guided by COPE procedures to ensure fairness, consistency, and transparency.
5. Publication and Visibility of Notices
5.1 How Notices Are Published
Corrections, retractions, and expressions of concern are published as formal notices. These notices:
- clearly identify the affected article;
- state the reason for the action in clear, factual, and non-defamatory language;
- indicate who initiated the action (e.g., author, editor, publisher, or institution), where appropriate.
5.2 Linking and Permanence
All notices are permanently linked to the original article. The original article remains accessible to preserve the scholarly record but is clearly marked on the article landing page (and on the PDF, where technically feasible) to indicate its corrected, concerned, retracted, or withdrawn status.
6. Appeals and Further Actions
Authors may appeal decisions related to corrections, retractions, or expressions of concern by submitting a written request to the editorial office. Appeals are reviewed by the Editor-in-Chief and/or an independent editor not involved in the original decision, in line with COPE guidance.
7. Commitment to Transparency and Integrity
JOMEINO is committed to safeguarding the integrity of the academic record. This policy is regularly reviewed and updated to remain aligned with COPE guidance, international best practices, and the expectations of the scholarly community.
